Last updated
We want Umgone to work for everyone who wants to practice, on any device and with any way of reading the screen. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA.
What we do
- every page works with a keyboard alone, with a visible focus and a “Skip to content” link first;
- text and buttons keep a contrast of at least 4.5 to 1, in the light and the dark theme;
- pages fit a 320-pixel-wide screen with no sideways scrolling, and still work with text zoomed to 200%;
- buttons, and the links in the header and the footer, are at least 44 pixels tall, for a thumb;
- every number is written in words beside any picture of it, never shown by colour alone;
- each page has its own title, one main heading, and its language declared.
How we test it
Before each release, our tests open the pages in a browser at a phone’s width (390 and 360 pixels) and a desktop’s (1440), and fail when a page scrolls sideways or a heading, link or label is missing.
What we know does not work yet
- the voice test, the tools and the drills measure your speech, so they need you to speak into a microphone; their explanations can still be read without one;
- the measures are made for English, and a minute in another language gives numbers that mean little.
Tell us what gets in your way
If something on Umgone does not work for you, write to hello@umgone.com with the page and what you use (your phone or computer, your browser, and a screen reader if you use one). We answer within two working days, and fix what we can in the next release.
