UmgoneFree voice test

Rate my voice

Speak or read aloud for one minute and get a voice score out of 100, then the numbers behind it. Free: no card and no sign-up.

Speak for up to a minute, in your own words or reading a short passage aloud, and see how your voice sounds to someone listening: how deep it is, and how much your pitch moves.

Our own measures, on our own server: no AI service listens to your recording, and no other company gets it. We delete the recording as soon as it is measured.

Free, with no account: 3 takes a day.

The test is for adults. We only check that you are 18 or over, and we do not keep the year.

For practice, not therapy: for a voice or speech problem, see a speech-language pathologist.

How the voice score is worked out

How close this take came to our targets for a clear, lively, steady voice: pace, pitch range, pauses and loudness.

Today the score is built from: pitch range. The other parts join once their own checks pass. We never show a number before its check passes, so a part that is not shown is never counted as 0.

Each part gets 0 to 100 points against its target, and the score is their weighted average. We wrote the targets and the weights down before we tested the score, and they are the same for everyone.

  • pace · weight 30%

full points from 160 to 180 words a minute, none at 60 words a minute outside that.

Most radio writers recommend 160 to 180 words a minute (Rodero, 2012).

not counted yet: its number is not shown until its check passes.

  • pitch range · weight 30%

full points at 13.4 semitones or more, none at 2 or fewer.

Judges’ liveliness ratings of talks followed how much the pitch moved (Hincks, 2005). None at 2 semitones, where a reading flattened by 80% lands; full points at twice our flat line of 6.7 semitones (in about 9 in 10 of our 120 reference recordings the pitch moved more than the line).

  • pauses · weight 20%

not in the score yet: its target is written down with its check.

Its target is written down when its check passes, before it counts.

  • loudness · weight 20%

not in the score yet: its target is written down with its check.

Its target is written down when its check passes, before it counts.

The score is of one recording, never of you: record again and it can move. It is not a rank against other people, and no one else sees it.
